Why Is The Legend Of Zelda So Successful?

The Legend of Zelda is a popular action-adventure video game series created by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in 1986 and it has since become one of the most successful and beloved franchises in the gaming industry. Over the years, the series has seen numerous iterations and spin-off games, each with its own unique storyline and gameplay elements.

Very soon, the sequel to Breath of the Wild (a huge success!) will be coming. In a little bit of nostalgia, we will now delve into the question "why is the Legend of Zelda so successful?"

Ocarina of Time as the first 3D game

The original Legend of Zelda was set in the kingdom of Hyrule and followed the hero, Link, as he embarked on a quest to save Princess Zelda and defeat the evil Gannon. The game was well received for its expansive world, non-linear gameplay, and memorable characters. This set the foundation for the series, which continued to expand upon these elements in subsequent releases.

One of the most notable entries in the series is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64. This game is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time and it introduced new elements such as 3D graphics and a time-travel mechanic.

A new turn with the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess

In the 2000s, the series continued to evolve with games such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Wind Waker introduced cel-shaded graphics and a nautical theme, while Twilight Princess was a return to the series' more traditional roots and featured more realistic graphics.

More recently, the series has seen a renewed focus on innovation and experimentation with games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. This game was a departure from the traditional Zelda formula and offered an open-world environment for players to explore.

A game with meaning

Indeed, the Zelda series stands as a testament to a rich and storied history, brimming with unforgettable characters, iconic music, and captivating narratives. Whether one's allegiance lies with the classics or the more contemporary releases, the indelible impact of this franchise on the gaming industry is undeniable. The Legend of Zelda has woven itself into the fabric of gaming culture, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to captivate and inspire fans across generations. From the evocative tunes of Hyrule to the epic adventures of Link and Princess Zelda, the series has etched its mark on the hearts of gamers worldwide, solidifying its place as a cornerstone in the pantheon of gaming greatness.

One of the things we can tell is how meaningful the symbolism and the story of Zelda in itself is. It is filled with mysteries, matters of light and darkness, of good and evil and so much more. The game is filled with references to myths and the creativity of the saga's creators is absolutely astonishing. Brillant minds...

Is the best of the saga to come?
