Why Is The Legend Of Zelda So Successful?

The Legend of Zelda is a popular action-adventure video game series created by Nintendo. The first game in the series was released in 1986 and it has since become one of the most successful and beloved franchises in the gaming industry. Over the years, the series has seen numerous iterations and spin-off games, each with its own unique storyline and gameplay elements.

Very soon, the sequel to Breath of the Wild (a huge success!) will be coming. In a little bit of nostalgia, we will now delve into the question "why is the Legend of Zelda so successful?"

Ocarina of Time as the first 3D game

The original Legend of Zelda was set in the kingdom of Hyrule and followed the hero, Link, as he embarked on a quest to save Princess Zelda and defeat the evil Gannon. The game was well received for its expansive world, non-linear gameplay, and memorable characters. This set the foundation for the series, which continued to expand upon these elements in subsequent releases.

One of the most notable entries in the series is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64. This game is widely considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time and it introduced new elements such as 3D graphics and a time-travel mechanic.

A new turn with the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess

In the 2000s, the series continued to evolve with games such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Wind Waker introduced cel-shaded graphics and a nautical theme, while Twilight Princess was a return to the series' more traditional roots and featured more realistic graphics.

More recently, the series has seen a renewed focus on innovation and experimentation with games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. This game was a departure from the traditional Zelda formula and offered an open-world environment for players to explore.

A game with meaning

Overall, the Zelda series has a rich history filled with memorable characters, iconic music, and captivating storylines. Whether you're a fan of the original games or the more recent releases, there's no denying the impact that this franchise has had on the gaming industry.

One of the things we can tell is how meaningful the symbolism and the story of Zelda in itself is. It is filled with mysteries, matters of light and darkness, of good and evil and so much more. The game is filled with references to myths and the creativity of the saga's creators is absolutely astonishing. Brillant minds...

Is the best of the saga to come?

In conclusion, The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved and iconic video game franchises of all time and its history is marked by innovation, experimentation, and a commitment to delivering the highest-quality gaming experiences to players around the world. We have seen a myriad of Zelda games that are incredibly successful and amazing to play.

But is this all over, and has the Zelda reached its peak, or is there much more to come? With the recent release of Tears of the Kingdom's trailer, we can only hope for the best. The future will tell, but although we are nostalgic and we do believe that it will be hard to beat Ocarina of Time or the Majora's Mask in feelings, the saga has beautiful days yet to come!
